These hooks took longer to fail than their smaller counterparts but all sizes failed similarly. I purchased these hooks to avoid putting holes in my ancient wood lathe plaster walls. Point blank this product failed miserably. I hung a framed 24x36" picture on a wall that fell down about 6 weeks after hanging despite following the instructions perfectly. I went off the reservation a little by using two hooks instead of one to hang this picture - a sort of experiment to stay within the rated weight limit per hook. I placed both hooks as close together as possible to limit twist.
When the painting fell one hook took with it 2 layers of paint and 2 layers of primer, so now the spot is down to bare plaster and will need significant repair. The other hook fully detached from the top coat of paint (Sherwin-Williams Duration Matte finish) - kind of the worst of all possible scenarios. The paint job was about three weeks old when attached and fully cured at the time of detachment. A single lower rated hook holding less weight detached about 2 weeks ago in a different part of the room so this is a trend now.
I might recommend trying this product on brand new primed and painted drywall, but I would not use it on a wall that's been repainted multiple times or on plaster walls. I believe poor adhesion below the hook contributed to the failure, but the adhesive also failed and barely felt tacky when I touched it. This is simply a product that should have never come to market as it both failed to adhere and caused damage equal to a screw or nail on the wall. Also I would not hang anything valuable on these hooks, and certainly no framed pictures.
edit: When I painted houses I removed a lot of command hooks for customers and began to count each one as a point of wall damage in estimates. Aged ones >1yr old don't detach using the pull tab and have to be scraped off - sometimes wall damage results, sometimes sticky residue needs to be sanded, but usually additional labor minutes are expended on a command hook. I would be surprised if anyone on deerhardware has removed more command hooks than me... the older hooks never come off like they do in the commercials.
